Real quote overheard just seconds ago. 'My computer is like 14 years old. And by 14 I mean like 7... or 10 at most.'

A weekend to remember...

I just realized that I never came back and filled in more details about the film festival. I texted in the last entry from my phone, so I was confined to 140 characters.
The festival went well. We didn't have very good turnout, there were only about six that aren't regulars, so imagine our shock when we saw that three students had indicated that they'd trusted Christ! They were also all men, and all on the cross country/track team.
I've had a chance to meet with two of them so far, and begin going through some of the follow up material that Crusade has produced. Monday we talked about assurance of salvation. This Monday we're talking about God's forgiveness. Please keep these guys in your prayers.

Sarah's been giddy all week, because tonight we're going to St. Louis for the weekend for Family Life's Weekend to Remember conference. I've no doubt the puns will be flowing freely.
We've been saying we're going to a conference since we got married, and we've finally found a weekend when we can do it.

One of the things I'm looking forward to is a tour of Missouri gas prices. Missouri has some of the cheapest gas in the nation (they make up for it by not maintaining their roads). On Wednesday we went to Warrensburg to plan with UCM students, and we had to drive past $1.57 gas, because we had 3/4 of a tank. In a Honda Civic, that means we'd be putting in about 2-3 gallons. Not really worth the stop, even on principle.

We had a small turnout for the film festival, but we had three students indicate decisions for Christ! Praise God! I'll write more soon.

D-Day

The Film Festival is this afternoon, and my mind is swirling with a million details. Amidst that, Sarah and I are also doing a breakout session for Cameroon at another meeting this evening. Bad timing.

Please pray for both events, that God would use both powerfully to make His kingdom known.

Film Festival

After a weekend in Nebraska visiting Sarah's grandparents and watching Nebraska restore a little order in a two score win over KU, it's back to business as usual, if there can be such a thing.

This week Crusade at Johson County Community College is hosting a Film Festival. We will show a variety of short films with spiritual themes, and then facilitate discussion of those themes. One of Sarah's students will share her testimony, and the Gospel will be presented.

We've tried to blanket the campus with advertisement in the form of posters, fliers to hand out, and Facebook ads. We're also showing short films to students on campus to engage them in spiritual conversations, and then inviting them to the event.

Please pray of the Festival will come together. We are asking God to bring 100 students which is no small request, since our normal Thursday crowd is about 10 people. Pray that the Gospel would be heard clearly, and that students would respond. Thank you for standing with us.

An important reminder

I started this morning as I do many mornings.

1. Wake up.
2. Stumble around and get my bearings.
3. Go get the paper.

This is where I departed from my routine. Normally, step four is to leave the paper on the table for Sarah while I go get my news from the internet. There's just something about having to turn to page nine to read the rest of the story that kills my interest. This morning however, this story caught my eye.

For those who, like me, don't want to navigate to another page to read the rest of the story, I'll sum up.

With all the economic uncertainty of late, a lot of charities and non-profit organizations are feeling the pinch as contribution decline. The fact that this is happening in the fall, when a lot of organizations count on end of the year giving is all the more alarming.

That's the main idea. As I was reading it I was reminded of all the people we have standing with us in our ministry, faithfully giving and making it possible for us to invest in the lives of college students. We're so encouraged by the generosity of those who faithfully pray for and give to our ministry.

A New Name

I was working in the office yesterday on wiring and insulation (if you're a building inspector for the city of Overland Park, it's replacement of an old circuit), and at one point I looked out and was struck by how beautiful one of the trees across the street is. I thought to myself, "I should take a picture so I can share the view from our window."

I didn't take a picture, because I'm lazy, and the camera batteries were dead, but the phrase was stuck in my mind.

It's been fun to work on the office, our 10% off coupon from Lowe's finally showed up, so I stocked up on all the wire, outlets, etc. that I'm going to need for the project, and last night I was able to get down to business. I made good progress today. It helps that the only games we got on TV were blowouts.

Sarah spent the day shopping with Janna, her friend from Tallahassee that came to visit for the weekend. We've either had visitors or been out of town every weekend since September 20th, and if we have company in two weeks, we'll ride that streak all the way to December.

This evening we went to Lawrence to see our friends, the Smiths. Ted and Alicia are from Nebraska and joined staff at the same time as Sarah. We watched the NU vs. OU game. I'll say this for the game, we had some great snacks.
